Is AG1 Third-Party Tested? Yes, Here’s How and Why
With certifications from Informed Sport and Cologne List® and third-party testing in ISO-certified labs, AG1 goes far beyond what’s legally required to ensure every scoop is clean, consistent, and safe.
Most supplements never go through third-party testing – because they don’t have to. AG1 chooses to do it anyway.
Why Third-Party Testing Matters
First things first: Why should you care about testing and certifications?
When it comes to quality assessment, supplements are treated like ordinary foods. That means they’re only required to meet basic safety and labelling laws – not to prove purity, potency, or absence of contaminants. Most supplement brands stop at the legal minimum. They’re not required to conduct independent purity testing or continuously re-test their batches – and many don’t.
AG1 does. We test every batch through third-party labs to verify that each scoop is controlled for heavy metals, microbes, and banned substances. Our limits are stricter than those required by law – it’s the standard we want to set for the industry.
We go even further by partnering with organisations like Informed Sport and Cologne List. It’s an investment most companies skip – but one that gives you the peace of mind you deserve.
How AG1 Is Tested: Step by Step
INGREDIENT SCREENING
Every raw material is tested for contaminants before it enters production.
IN-PROCESS CHECKS
Samples are verified throughout manufacturing to confirm nutrient integrity.
FINAL BATCH TESTING
Labs test for heavy metals, microbes, and pesticides with limits stricter than required by law.
CERTIFICATION TESTING & LISTING
Informed Sport and Cologne List® test for banned substances and list AG1 on their databases.
PUBLIC CERTIFICATE OF ANALYSIS
We also publish a summary of all third-party testing in a Certificate of Analysis on our website.

What Is Third-Party Testing Exactly?
Aren't all supplements tested the same?
Third-party testing means laboratories unaffiliated with the brand analyse samples of raw materials, in-process formulations, or finished products to verify:
- Purity (e.g. absence of heavy metals, microbial contaminants, residual solvents)
- Potency and label accuracy (i.e. confirming that nutrient amounts match the label)
- Absence of undeclared or harmful substances (including known doping / banned compounds)
- Consistency across batches
To be credible, such labs work under recognised accreditations and follow validated methods. All of AG1’s third-party testing is done in ISO/IEC 17025-accredited labs.
And What Are Third-Party Certifications?
Do supplements need to be certified for quality?
A third-party certification – like Informed Sport or Cologne List® – is an added layer of certainty and peace of mind. While third-party testing evaluates AG1’s quality at the lab level, third-party certifications are programs that formally review, test, and confirm that a product and its manufacturing processes meet strict safety and quality standards.
These certifications are completely voluntary – AG1 chooses to pursue them because they reflect our commitment to transparency and athlete-level quality assurance.
In short: third-party testing evaluates our quality, and certifications like Informed Sport and Cologne List® underline it.
