Omega-3 Fatty Acids (as Triglycerides) Facts

Omega-3 fatty acids are a family of essential polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs) that form the structural foundation of cell membranes throughout the body, particularly in the brain, retina, and heart.

The most biologically active forms with the most established health effects, EPA and DHA, are primarily found in marine sources like fatty fish. A third form, ALA, is found in plant foods like flaxseeds and walnuts, but the body converts very little ALA into the EPA and DHA it actually needs.
